01 — Our story

How we got here

We met online, which is to say a bee made the introduction and then left us to it. One of us in Kent, one of us in Essex, and the Dartford Crossing between us like a medieval trial — £2.50 and forty minutes of queueing for love. Romance is not dead, it's just stuck in traffic on the M25.

Naturally, Jack proposed in an escape room. The final puzzle came down to a choice: free the trapped stranger, or eternal life together. With the clock running down, there was a heated discussion. We chose eternity, the stranger is presumably still in there, and we are told the staff no longer use that room.

The short version, anyway.

Getting to the Ravenswood

We're deep in the Sussex woods, which is lovely but not exactly on a bus route. Here's everything you need to get there and back — and somewhere soft to land afterwards.

By car

About 45 minutes from Gatwick, an hour and a half from central London. The last stretch is single-track lanes — take it slowly. Free on-site parking, and you're welcome to leave a car overnight.

By train

East Grinstead is the nearest station, roughly 15 minutes from the venue by taxi. Taxis don't reliably wait at the rank — please pre-book, and book your return before you leave home.

05 — Dress code

What to wear

Suits and frocks, nothing stiffer than that. We're genuinely not fussed about colours — wear whatever you feel best in. The only ask is that white is left to the bride.

Underfoot you'll be fine — it's patio and indoors throughout, with a bit of grass if you fancy wandering onto it. Heels are entirely welcome. One thing worth knowing: late September turns cold once the sun goes, so bring a layer you don't mind being photographed in.

06 — Gifts

If you'd like to give something…

Genuinely, you being there is the whole thing — we've got a toaster and it works fine. But if you'd like to mark the day, we're putting anything kind towards a honeymoon somewhere with better weather than a Sussex wood in September.

And if you'd rather give a present than money, please do — there's no registry, so anything you choose is very welcome.

08 — FAQ

Questions?

Can we bring the children?

As much as we'd love to include everyone's little ones, due to limited numbers we're only able to welcome those named on the invitation. Thank you for understanding.

Can I bring a plus-one?

Everyone we've invited is named on your invitation, so if a plus-one is included, you'll see their name there. We've had to make some tough choices with numbers — we hope you understand.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes — it's patio and indoor spaces throughout, so no rough ground to cross. Do tell us what would help — a drop-off close to the door, a seat near the front, a quiet spot to step away to — and we'll arrange it.

Photographs during the ceremony?

We'd rather give a present than money — is that all right?

Of course. There's no registry, so anything thoughtful is very welcome — and nothing at all is equally fine.

When do we need to reply by?

Replies by . If your plans are uncertain, tell us anyway — an early maybe is more useful to us than a late yes.
